About
Dr Vanessa Giddins is an orthopaedic spine surgeon specialising in the management of both adult and paediatric spinal conditions, with particular interests in scoliosis, spinal deformity, degenerative spinal conditions and spinal trauma.
Dr Giddins completed her medical degree at the University of Sydney before undertaking specialist orthopaedic surgical training through the Australian Orthopaedic Association. She was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2025.
Following completion of her orthopaedic training, Dr Giddins undertook specialist spine fellowship training at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead and Royal North Shore Hospital, gaining extensive experience in paediatric and adult spinal surgery. She subsequently completed a Combined Neurosurgery and Orthopaedic Spine Surgery Fellowship at Toronto Western Hospital, University of Toronto, further developing her experience in the assessment and surgical management of complex adult spinal conditions.
During her fellowship in Toronto, Dr Giddins was involved in research examining complex spinal reconstruction and mechanical complications following spinal fusion. She presented this work at the Canadian Spine Society Annual Scientific Meeting and SpineFest in 2026.
Dr Giddins takes a considered and patient-centred approach to care, with an emphasis on clear communication and helping patients and their families understand both surgical and non-surgical treatment options.
Her clinical interests include paediatric and adolescent spinal conditions, scoliosis and spinal deformity, degenerative spinal conditions, spinal trauma and spinal tumours.
